County Fairs

County Fairs are over in Michigan for another season.  Ours is the biggest and the last.  It ran from Sept 21-27.

It is also a 4H fair which means there are lots of animals, vegetables etc. that the kids have done. There is something for everyone.

I have been working at it for 24 years mostly in security. And my husband has for 26 years.  We worked it again this year.

I love seeing all the people that I only see once a year, due to the fact that some are from other states and come back each year. But I put in long hours as I get there at 7:30 am and don’t leave until after 9:00pm most times.

This year my husband and I worked together and were lucky enough to be near our truck.  I say lucky because I was able to have a ‘tailgate sale’.  I set up my pendants, earrings and other polymer clay items on our tailgate.  I also ran a fair week 1/2 off special on my buttons.  It turned out pretty good.  I made a few sales, got a few orders and got paid for being there. haha

I could not have afforded to rent a booth and probably would not have gotten one anyway as most if not all are already spoken for, years ahead of time.

We had beautiful weather, in the mid to upper 70’s all week during the day, upper 50’s at night and not a drop of rain.  Here in lower Michigan at this time of year you never know what kind of weather you will have.  The week after we had upper 50’s and lower 60’s and 2 nights we had frost already. The leaves are turning such beautiful colors.

On top of all that I got to see my oldest son, daughter-in-law, grandsons and granddaughter, that week.  Not as much as I would have liked but that was the only time they were able to come up from Kentucky (granddaughter is from Michigan).  I don’t get to see them often, so any time I get to is nice.

Do any of you go to the County Fair?  When is yours? Now did you spend that week?

I hope everyone had as good of a week as I did.  See ya tomorrow.  I will be talking about Etsy.

the passing of a great artist…etc

While I have been online, I have not been responding to the posts on my groups as I usually do. But have been reading and today there was a post about the passing of a very great artist and friend of the PC world, that some of you probably know or have heard of, Alan Vernall. Alan belonged to at least one of the groups that I do and he was always there to help us out. He had a great since of humor. He will be sadly missed by everyone. My condolences go out to his beautiful wife Mary, family and friends.
I haven’t written in here in so long and now I have a lot to talk about. I have been busy doing research for my brother-in-law and that took a lot of my time. But it was well worth it as I think I found the items he needed to be able to go back to work. I love doing research but sometimes it gets frustrating when you can’t find what you are looking for. But it feels so good when you do run across the very thing you needed. Gives me a good feeling about myself. Especially when I am helping someone.

I have also been busy doing Halloween items. We will be working theCounty Fair here in our town the week of Sept. 21st and I am planning on taking a few of my things to show. Hopefully I will sell a few. I have some in my Flickr album if you would like to check them out and make comments (nice ones please LOL) if you like.
I have also started adding vintage items to my Etsy shop.  I have found some really nice jewelry and clothes patterns.  That has been fun as I love the older things.  And of course like a good deal and then to pass it on to someone else.
Also I have made some texture stamps out of polymer clay, they are just little round disks and I got to wondering what I was going to put them on so I could use them easier. Well I got to thinking about the tops to pop/water bottles. I save these” just in case” so I had quite a few of them. I just glued the stamp on the cap. I haven’t used them yet so I don’t know how long the glue will hold or if it will ever be a problem. I have pix of those in the Flickr also. Let me know what you think.

And last be certainly not least to all of my Texas readers who are facing the Hurricane Ike, I am praying that you will make it thru this troubled time without any heartships. May God bless you all and your families and friends.

I hope everyone has had a good month since last I wrote and I will try to write more often.  I think of things I want to put in here but just never seem to have enough time in the day to do all that I want to do.

A Monday Ramble

Hello All, I have had a really busy week and week-end. Didn’t get a lot of clay-play time in but did start a new pendant. The first part of the week I finally got to meet my newest grandson (6 mos). He lives in Kentucky with his Ma and Dad ( my oldest son)and older brother ( almost 3). Ma and kids got to come to Mi for a 2 week vacation so we made sure to get to see them a couple times last week. This week will be seeing them again and getting things ready to send home with them.

Then this last week-end we held a garage sale with some friends of ours. The sale wasn’t to good but we had a nice time visiting and enjoying the nice weather. Had a cook out and got caught in the rain.

This week-end I will be going up north with my daughter to visit my youngest son. I haven’t seen him in about 18 months so that will be nice and it will give my daughter and I a chance to hang out.

I am working on a pendant in polymer clay. I was looking around for American Indian art and came across this painting called the Four Winds. I just fell in love with it so I am doing my idea of the Four Winds mine doesn’t look to much like the orgininal but it is the way I wanted it to look. I have been working on it for a week off and on. Adding some or removing some. I think I have the main idea done and will bake it later today and then finish it hopefully some time this week. (It’s another busy week). I will post pictures when I am ready.

I have a few ideas of things I would like to make ( a pc) but right now I just don’t have the time. At the same time I am crocheting a car seat blanket for my daughter-in-law who is due to have a little girl the end of this month. Also I have been knitting some things to give as gifts.

I am going to start making some crocheted dollies for a lady here in town who was left some thread and hooks but can’t work the looks herself. Haven’t got all the details yet but it should be a fun project.

I read a great article on CraftyGoats site, about keeping track of the things that inspire you. That article was real useful and I joined right away.

I am still in the process of getting things organized but this is a good place to start. If you have problems with keeping things organized you might want to check it out. She has a few good articles one about cleaning your extruder that is useful.

Well I am off to a doctors appointment. Hope all have a great day.

Happy Clay-zie Day, CraftyLinda

My new Grandson

I had some good news this week-end.  I have a new Grandson.  He was born Saturday Oct. 21, 2007.  Here is some pic of him.  Can’t you tell I am proud?  Here is a link (I hope) to one of his pics.

Check him out if you have time.

Well I am off to take some pics.

Hello world!

Welcome to LGDesigns. Here I go.( deep breath). This is going to be my main blog.  I have  tried an other time but it didn’t work out the way I wanted.  I have joined City-CraftBizAdvise and with the help of my friends there I hope this will turn out to be everything I hope for. This is a great group of people all helping each other find a way to start a business the best way possible.  As soon I figure out how to add links to this site I will have that link posted.  You should check it out if you are thinking about going into business or already have a business and would just like other people to talk to and get or give advise.

I am hoping to put some of my polymer clay designs on here and any links to other sites I think are of interest.  And of course I have to have a page for family and friends.
